Celebrity Compass was launched for the first time: Celebrity Cruises is entering the river cruise market

Celebrity Cruises first launched Celebrity Compass - the first river cruise ship in the new Celebrity River Cruises fleet. The vessel is being prepared for the start of river cruises across Europe in 2027.

The launch marked an important milestone in the construction of Celebrity Compass: the external work on the hull has been completed, and the ship was placed in the water for the first time. The multi-day operation began on September 9, 2026 at the Zwijnenburg shipyard in Rotterdam.

After the launch, Celebrity Compass completed its first 50 miles along the river and arrived on September 12 at the TeamCo shipyard in the Dutch city of Heden. There, outfitting and preparations for the ship to receive passengers will continue.

The first river liner from Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Compass will become the first vessel of Celebrity River Cruises-a new direction of the company, which was previously known primarily for sea cruises.

According to Celebrity Cruises President Lori Hodges Bethge, the company aims to bring to river cruising modern design, a high level of service, and itinerary-rich routes typical of the Celebrity brand.

The first Celebrity Compass cruises are scheduled for 2027. The liner was created for journeys along European rivers and will combine the river-cruise format with design solutions familiar to passengers of Celebrity Cruises’ ocean liners.

Magic Edge - Restaurants Over the Water

One of the main features of Celebrity Compass will be Magic Edge - cantilevered dining areas that extend beyond the side of the ship. According to the company’s concept, passengers will be able to dine directly above the surface of the river and enjoy the views along the route.

Celebrity Cruises calls Magic Edge the first cantilevered dining areas of this type on a river ship. The concept is reminiscent of the Magic Carpet platform used on the sea liners of the Celebrity Edge series, but it has been adapted to the conditions of river cruises.

There will also be a small pool with a panoramic edge onboard, as well as open decks offering 360-degree views.

Celebrity Compass Staterooms

In all cabins, they plan to install king-size beds with the option to split them into two separate sleeping places. The project also includes well-thought-out storage systems, large windows, and balconies.

A highlight of the ship will be Skylight Infinite Balcony Suites-suites with a panoramic balcony and a large ceiling window that will provide additional natural light.

For Celebrity Compass, five categories of cabins and suites have been announced. Each suite includes butler service.

Restaurants and Bars Onboard

On the riverliner Celebrity Compass, they plan to open eight restaurants and bars. Among them will be venues already familiar to passengers of the sea cruises Celebrity Cruises:

• Martini Bar;

• Sunset Bar;

• Café Al Bacio.

The menu will be complemented with regional dishes connected to the countries and cities along the route. The company also states a flexible all-day dining format, free delivery of breakfast to the cabin, and the ability to order food 24/7.

The debut of Celebrity Compass is scheduled for 2027. The ship will offer river cruises across Europe, opening up a new destination for Celebrity Cruises.

The launch of the first river liner demonstrates that the Celebrity River Cruises project has moved from a concept presentation to a practical stage of implementation. After outfitting is completed, Celebrity Compass is set to become the first vessel of the company’s new river fleet.
