Carnival Freedom has completed its 35-day dry dock repair at the Chantier Naval de Marseille shipyard in France. During the work, the liner received a new signature whale-tail-shaped funnel and updates to passenger areas.
Carnival Cruise Line announced the completion of the repair on October 8, 2026. The first voyage after docking, as per the schedule, was a Mediterranean cruise departing from Barcelona on October 9.
What’s been updated on Carnival Freedom
The new funnel has retained Carnival’s recognizable shape, but has become shorter. According to the company’s explanation, this will expand the ship’s ability to call at ports.
Among other changes:
a redesigned casino with more than 100 additional slot machines;
an updated video game arcade;
modernized retail spaces;
improvements to onboard accessibility.
On the ship’s bow, the From Sea to Shining Sea emblem has also appeared.
Itinerary from Barcelona
A Mediterranean cruise is scheduled for 8 nights, from 9 to 17 October 2026, returning to Barcelona. The program includes:
Marseille, France;
Livorno, a port for excursions to Florence and Pisa;
Civitavecchia, a port for visiting Rome;
Naples, Italy;
Valletta, Malta.
The schedule also includes two days at sea.
For passengers, this is a combination of the French coast, Italian cities, and Malta all in one trip. When planning excursions, it’s important to note that Florence and Rome are located beyond the ports of call and require a separate transfer.
After Europe, the liner will set sail for the USA.
After the Mediterranean cruise, a scheduled 13-night transatlantic cruise Carnival Journeys. Arrival in Port Canaveral, Florida is expected on 30 October 2026.
The liner is set to be based there until May 2027, after which it will move to Norfolk, Virginia. Therefore, the October program from Barcelona is a short European segment before Carnival Freedom returns to American itineraries.
Bookings are now open for the 2028/29 season
At the same time, Carnival announced the launch of sales for new Carnival Freedom cruises from Norfolk for the 2028/29 season, with departures through April 2029.
The program includes voyages lasting from six to eight days to the Bahamas and Bermuda, the Eastern Caribbean, and Canada.
