From 1990 to 2004, the liner was named Nordic Empress. Then it was renamed Empress of the Seas. From 2008 to 2016, it was part of the fleet of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd holding company’s subsidiary Pullmantur Cruises under the name Empress.
In spring 2016, it rejoined the main company. This is the smallest and oldest ship in Royal Caribbean.
It runs 4-5 day cruises from Miami across the Caribbean. From May 2017, it departs from the port of Tampa with a stop in Havana.
In 2017, Empress of the Seas ranked 4th among mid-size ships in the categories Best Entertainment, Best for Value, and 7th in the Best Food category on the CruiseCritic website, compiled based on passenger reviews.
Following the results of the most recent health inspection by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Organization), the liner received 94 points out of 100 possible.
