Overview

Features of the Disney Cruise Line Cruise Company

Disney Cruise Line — the organizer of the most fairy-tale journeys in the cruise format. This cruise company was founded by the legendary Walt Disney Pictures, which creates the best world masterpieces in the field of film and animation. The magical atmosphere can be felt aboard Disney ships too. This is one of the most vivid and unusual features of the company, established back in 1996.

What makes Disney Cruise Line cruises special:

  1. An optimal choice for family travel with children.
  2. Each Disney ship is steeped in the theme of popular movies and cartoons.
  3. On board, you can meet your favorite characters and find themed décor: rocks, palaces, multicolored crystals, etc.
  4. A private island in the Bahamas where you can soak up the sun on the beach, enjoy water slides, and ride on attractions.
  5. Bright Broadway-style shows, animated kids’ programs, themed events, and 3D movie screenings.

Don’t be surprised if you see a realistic Donald Duck strolling around the deck, singing. You definitely won’t get bored on the way. The company places special emphasis on making sure passengers have fun, feel joyful, and enjoy a festive atmosphere throughout the journey.

Disney Cruise Line Fleet

Distinctive features of Disney Cruise Line liners:

  • an elegant design typical of ships from the 1930s of the previous century: round windows, signature decorative elements — an always-relevant classic;
  • 2 branded red-and-black smokestacks located in the central part, featuring a logo with Mickey Mouse;
  • the exterior hull is made in a combination of two main colors: black and white, as well as two additional ones: orange and red;
  • special design tailored to the family vacation and entertainment format — if you need a library or a casino, this is definitely not for you;
  • segmentation by age-related interests, allowing children of any age to find suitable places on board to spend their time.

We’d like to highlight a unique feature of Disney Cruise Line. Each ship in this fleet sounds a horn reminiscent of a short melody «When You Wish Upon a Star», which plays in the Pinocchio cartoon.

The Disney fleet includes four ships: Magic, Wonder, Dream, and Fantasy. Let’s take a closer look at the features of each of them.

About Disney Magic

Launched in 1998, refurbished in 2005. Originally, the ship was created as a fast yacht for family travel. On board you’ll find themed kids’ cafés, a Brazilian restaurant, comfortable lounge areas, and also a nightclub «Phantom», where adults can relax, not children.

About Disney Wonder

Launched in 1999, refurbished in 2006. A benchmark level of service, spacious cabins, and a wealth of fun play areas — all of this and more awaits you when you set off on a cruise aboard the Disney Wonder liner. It has 11 decks and 875 cabins with a unique refined interior.

About Disney Dream

Put into service in 2011. A sea voyage aboard the Dream will help you rest from everyday routine by immersing yourself in the fantastic world of Disney Cruise. The ship offers 1250 spacious and beautifully furnished cabins, as well as 14 decks. An Art Deco-style interior, themed restaurants, and a service level that matches a bohemian way of life.

About Disney Fantasy

Put into service in 2020. Considered the largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It’s roughly twice the size of Magic and Wonder. It features an interesting signature characteristic — the presence of an exciting water slide called AquaDuck, priced at 10 000 000 euros. This amazing entertainment element is located on the top deck.

Cabin Options on the Liner

Themed entertainment and events, beautiful fairy-tale décor, parties. But what about places for seclusion or a calm family getaway away from outsiders? You can relax and take your mind off everything in comfortable cabins.

Disney cruise accommodation features:

  • 9 deck cabin categories, each distinguished by spaciousness, convenient layout, and included add-on services in the price;
  • 28 price categories — you can choose the best option based on the family budget set aside for the trip;
  • interior cabins available in the standard and deluxe classes can accommodate up to four passengers;
  • exterior cabins, enhanced with portholes and a window, accommodate up to five people;
  • deluxe-class cabins with an individual balcony, accommodating up to five passengers;
  • concierge-class options, featuring a personal balcony, accommodating 7 people;
  • suites for 7 passengers.

The Disney Cruise Line ships provide a virtual porthole in every interior cabin. This is an entertainment feature that broadcasts live what’s happening on the open deck. The image comes from surveillance cameras. The virtual porthole provides high-quality transmission, so from the outside you don’t even realize right away that it’s video from cameras rather than a real scene behind glass.

Even more positive emotions while watching come from computer special effects built into the program. With their help, cartoon characters appear on the porthole from time to time, entertaining both children and adults. Disney Cruise Line reviews prove that the ships are packed with such unusual elements, which keeps the fairy-tale atmosphere alive throughout the journey.

You’ll also be pleasantly pleased by premium mattresses from Posturepedic, Egyptian cotton bed linen from the Italian brand Frette, a 22-inch LCD TV, air conditioning, high-quality furniture, an iPod docking station, and other nice touches.

Dining On Board

Games are games, but the need to eat well still hasn’t been canceled. Disney Cruise Line offers the opportunity to visit restaurants designed in the style of well-known fairy tales: «Cinderella», «Sleeping Beauty», etc. The interesting detail is that, as part of the scheduled program, you can visit each of them. Moreover, passengers will always have a table with the same number and even the same waiter.

Parents can delight their favorite boys and girls even more by having the chance to have breakfast together with Disney characters. Fun characters can win over not only the youngest viewers but adults as well. By the way, you’ll meet these entertainers again and again as they stroll around the decks. You can chat with them, take photos, and even ask them to play with the children.

Another separate service you can order — room service directly to your cabin. In this case, you’ll receive breakfast from one of the fairy-tale characters. A very interesting and unusual experience.

In addition to the three main Disney Cruise Line restaurants, you can also visit pizzerias, snack bars, grill bars, and all kinds of places where you can grab a bite with yogurt and other quick-snack options. Also, all clients have access to buffet-style breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.

Entertainment On Board

Safety, food, service — everything is thought out at the highest level. But what about fun and relaxation? What can you watch, where can you have a good time, and what’s available for children and adults?

Details that will help you enjoy a comfortable and pleasantly memorable vacation:

  • large cabins — almost all of them include a comfortable bathtub (some even have a fold-down backrest);
  • onboard seating areas are divided by approximate age-related interests;
  • signature musicals, not inferior in quality to top global productions;
  • performances in the brand theater;
  • organization of family celebrations;
  • all kinds of parties held in special areas or on the open deck;
  • well-designed, animated décor across many parts of the ship;
  • movie/cartoon premieres and screenings of recently released films — broadcasts take place along the entire route;
  • shops with toys;
  • pirate-themed and other themed parties with bright show programs;
  • comfortable conditions for «caring» for children, so parents can wash, feed, and change their little travelers;
  • a full set of amenities onboard: SPA center, pool, bars, lounge areas, etc.;
  • your own island in the Bahamas, packed with an enormous number of places for fun and active recreation;
  • endlessly uplifting cartoon characters walking around the decks.

Don’t forget about the entertainment available beyond the ship. After all, the ship goes to beautiful, rich countries with interesting places according to the route you choose. In the ports where stops will be made, there will definitely be plenty of interesting things for adults and children: excursions, walks, active activities, and water slides.
No matter which route you choose, you’ll be able to see breathtaking views from the liner. This is especially useful for children to experience what a picturesque, amazing world their parents have given them the chance to visit.

Dress Code on the Liner

A noticeable advantage of Disney Cruise Line is the absence of a strict dress code. A fairly flexible policy has been chosen regarding how passengers can dress during the long-awaited vacation. Only certain recommendations are provided, which should be followed to feel as comfortable as possible.

For late breakfasts and early dinners, it’s recommended to come in casual attire (everyday style). If you go to dinner in any restaurant other than Palo, then jeans are absolutely acceptable, but it’s better not to wear a tank top, shorts, or other clothing that’s more appropriate for going to the pool.

For 3–4 days of the journey, one evening event is always planned, where passengers are advised to choose a more formal style of clothing. On such evenings, men can wear a blazer, and women — cocktail dresses.

It’s great that no one insists on following the dress code. If you simply don’t want to wear a blazer on a particular day, then don’t. Just enjoy the scenery, adventures, and new impressions.

Service Charge

In this section, in simpler terms, we’re talking about tips that are customary to leave to members of the service staff: waiters, the concierge, etc. When choosing a cruise, you won’t have to focus on this at all. The service charge/tips are already included in the price of the sea journey.

Features:

  • No need to pay anything extra;
  • $12 per night per person is already included in the onboard account;
  • service charges are automatically added to the bills: a 15%-charge when paying for drinks in bars and an 18%-charge for services in the SPA complex;
  • there’s an option to prepay the service charge (but no later than three days before departure).

Loyalty Program

The company has its own system to show appreciation to customers for choosing its travel offerings. The loyalty program is called Castaway Club. You join this closed club of privileged users after completing your first cruise route.

Castaway Club levels:

  1. Silver (1).
  2. Gold (5).
  3. Platinum (10).

The number in parentheses shows how many cruises you need to complete in order to be eligible for the privileged-user club.

What does all this give you? Participating in Castaway Club allows you to use exclusive services. Moreover, these are provided to clients both onboard and when disembarking in ports.

Benefits for Castaway Club members:

  • announcements of new trips before the general public finds out;
  • priority when booking new offerings;
  • access to closed events: meetings with Disney characters, free services in the SPA salon, and dinners at Remy, Palo — restaurants of the highest level;
  • welcome surprises upon boarding the ship;
  • detailed consultations from technical support specialists and prompt resolution of any questions on the way.
