Archaeological Museum
In the Archaeological Museum, you can see a rich collection of the earliest vessels and ceramic products, famous amphorae featuring depictions of the Trojan Horse and the fall of Troy, examples of sculpture and jewelry, artistic miniatures, and glass. Special attention should be paid to artifacts discovered during excavations of a necropolis located on the neighboring island of Rinia, including one of the most renowned masterpieces of ancient modeling-a clay figurine of a Greek beauty in traditional attire.
Aegean Sea Maritime Museum
One of the best regional museums in the country, showcasing in its exhibits the history of shipping in the Aegean Sea. Worth particular attention are the replicas of ancient rowing vessels, sailboats from later periods, and steamships, created with astonishing precision. Here you can also see collections of ancient amphorae and weights, a large number of maps, navigation instruments, etc. The upper part of the famous lighthouse from the northern cape-Armenistis-has been preserved.
Folk Museum
The museum houses a collection of antique furniture, Byzantine icons, folk pottery, a collection of embroidery and fabrics, as well as models of ancient ships.
Windmill Museum
Windmills are huge, snow-white round towers with a sharp thatched roof and very small windows. Most of these majestic structures were built by the Venetians in the 16th century, although they continued to be constructed until the beginning of the 20th century. Gradually, with advances in technology, the use of windmills-and the number of them-declined until, by the middle of the 20th century, they had completely stopped working. Over time, most of the mills were carefully restored. Today, 16 windmills have been preserved on the island of Mykonos. They now house cafés, museums, exhibition halls, and hotels.
Church of Panagia Paraportiani
Built on the site of a side exit from a medieval fortress (“paraporti” in Greek means “exit”), this church consists of five white chapels-4 of them are located on the lower level (St. Eustathius, St. Sazon, St. Ananias (the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian), and St. Anastasia), and the fifth-which is named Panagia Paraportiani (the icons of the Virgin Mary)-climbs up to the top.
