Incheon is a city and port on the Korean Peninsula in the Republic of Korea. The advance port of Seoul is located in the Bay of Ganhwaman in the Yellow Sea. Incheon ranks third in terms of population among Korean cities, after Seoul and Busan. Incheon is the country’s most important transport hub, since the city is home to the largest port on the western coast of the peninsula, as well as the country’s biggest airport, Incheon. In the 21st century, the city has turned into an international business center focused around the futuristic high-tech project New Songdo City, which is home to the country’s tallest building, the Northeast Asia Trade Tower. Today, it is a dynamically developing city with a population of over 2.5 million. Incheon also has the status of a free economic zone.
For centuries, merchants from nearby China, the Russian Empire and even Old World countries have settled here, enriching local traditions in their own way, yet without disrupting the authenticity and Eastern flavor. Today, the city has grown so much that it is essentially a kind of suburban area of Seoul. Rapid development and a fairly high standard of living provide around five thousand industrial enterprises, developed trade, and a thriving tourism sector.
Tourists are drawn here by historical relics of the 19th century and picturesque coastline. For the country’s guests, a whole tourist zone, Wolmi, has been created here, brimming with nightclubs, ultra-modern shops, and entertainment venues. Other areas of Incheon are also quite interesting and colorful: there are lively Korean markets, traditional restaurants, luxurious hotels, and magnificent parks, as well as several business districts and a China Town area. And on the islands located near Incheon, there are authentic monuments of bygone times - Buddhist temples and sculptures.
ClimateIn this part of the country, a mild maritime climate prevails, which means that the weather in Incheon is almost always pleasant and comfortable.
