Nanshan Buddhism Center

Nan Shan Mountain is a place so sacred that even breathing here feels different. Along the vast green park, there are little trains for 20 yuan that stop at the most interesting spots of Nan Shan, such as the Guanyin shrine. Here stands a 140-kilogram statue of the goddess of mercy, made of pure gold and adorned with precious stones totaling 400 carats. The six-armed Guanyin is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest pure-gold statue in Asia. Along the promenade, the train will stop near yet another effigy of the goddess-the 108-meter statue of the Three-Faced Guanyin, which is even taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York. Against the backdrop of Hainan’s sea landscapes and a blue sky, the enormous Buddhist structure looks truly magnificent.

Yalong Bay Beach

Yalong Bay is seven kilometers of golden sand along the coast of the city of Sanya. The water near the shore is clear, and farther out it turns azure, the color of the sky. This place is famous not only for its beautiful scenery, but also for the picturesque views that open up from different points along the beach. Along the shoreline there is a rental service for inflatable rings and mattresses, and sun loungers are available. Usually there aren’t many people at Yalong Bay, and those who do come are mostly foreigners, since the beach has a paid entry. You can get there by bus №102 from the Yuya Dadao area of Sanya.

Monkey Island

To get to Monkey Island, located 80 kilometers from Sanya, there is only one way-by air. A cable car connects the monkey colony with the larger island. A “ride” on the cable car is a separate attraction. The cabin glides above scenic groves with relict plants, a coastal town, and a fishermen’s bay. The island itself is a large park where more than 2000 monkeys live. They’re everywhere: hanging from trees, walking on the ground, approaching people and coaxing them for sweets, and trying to snatch bright ornaments. There’s also a small circus here, where the little monkeys put on acrobatic acts with the participation of other animals-for example, a goat that walks on a tightrope with a macaque on its head. And a parrot collects the money for the show.

Dunshanhu Natural Zoo

The largest zoo in Asia, covering an area of 130 hectares, is located on the shore of Lake Dongshanhu. Thousands of species of various animals live here: animals, birds, and reptiles from China and other Asian countries-Hainan spotted deer, leopards, tigers, lions, bears, and gibbons. And in the zoo’s garden, you can see a wide variety of tropical plants. The tour of the zoo is usually conducted on specially equipped off-road vehicles with a guide and a driver. And here, it’s not only about watching the animals. The lakeside area where the Dongshanhu Zoo is located is very picturesque. And nearby, on the mountain, there are many stones of different sizes and the most unusual shapes.

Park of the End of the World

A sandy beach with huge (up to 10 meters high) stones of exotic shapes, magnificent sculptures, and a beautiful landscape is located 23 km from Sanya. It is the «Tianya Haijiao» park, also known as the «Edge of the World» park. The cult of this place began with the legend of the mythical Monkey King Sun Wukong, who is said to have visited here. There is also another beautiful story: a drama unfolded on the beach involving the Chinese Romeo and Juliet-an in-love young man and a young woman-who turned into two gigantic boulders at the edge of the crystal-clear sea water. Other stones, slightly submerged in the sea, resemble playful, splashing dragons. Inside the park there is a Crystal Museum, where 4 rare types of crystal are on display: purple, yellow, green, and red.

Coral Reserve

Near the city of Sanya there is a coral reserve, where there are about 600 species of marine creatures. The diving programs are quite varied: there is beginner training, and night diving for professionals, and underwater excursions to shipwrecks and aircraft, and visits to caves and grottoes, and fishing at sunset, after which the catch will be prepared right on the boat by a Chinese chef.

Excursion to the village of the Li and Miao people

A folk village of the Li and Miao peoples - a journey into the past, as the locals faithfully preserve their traditions. Tourists are allowed into traditional clay huts with thatched roofs. And they’re even seated at the table. They feed you the same way local people have eaten for centuries - with rice baked in bamboo, and they pour local rice liquor. They show how clothing is made from homewoven fabric and the process of making silver jewelry. During specially designated hours every day, visitors are treated to a show of folk dances and several ceremonies: they demonstrate both a wedding and a funeral. The Li are the island’s pioneers. They have lived here since time immemorial, long before the Chinese arrived. The Miao appeared in Hainan later.

Pirate Island

A relatively small island with an area of 1.5 sq. km near Hainan (about 20 minutes from the pier by ship). Beaches with clean white sand, crystal-clear azure sea water, a rich underwater world of coral reefs, a full range of beach activities: a glass-bottom boat, fishing, a scooter, boat rentals, beach motorbikes and much more are available for you. There is also a diving center on the island.
