Gas Lantern Quarter
This quarter is definitely worth seeing just to enjoy a walk along its cozy, beautiful streets with paved sidewalks. The Gaslamp Quarter is one of the few places capable of conveying the true spirit of Mexico as fully as possible. It’s the heart of San Diego, setting a fun and energetic pace of life not only for the town itself, but also for its surrounding areas. And in the early 20th century, it was a notorious place known for its public houses, saloons, bars, and dens. Today, this quarter is the main hub for a variety of entertainment events. There are many bars and restaurants, art galleries and theaters, as well as historic buildings whose magnificent architecture creates a truly unique atmosphere.
Basilica of San Diego d’Alcalá
This beautiful basilica, the first of California’s 21 missions, is considered the oldest church in California (1769). It is known for its wonderfully preserved interiors and wonderful gardens; it serves as a parish church and a cultural center for people of all faiths.
Old Town
Old Town, located at the foot of Presidio Hill, preserves the Mexican and Spanish traditions of Southern California and evokes the earliest days of San Diego. Today, it’s a small piece of Spanish, Native American, and Mexican culture. Only here can you taste a real “Margarita”. In Old Town you’ll find the best Mexican restaurants. The sounds, the aromas, the atmosphere-everything here is absolutely unique! The first church, the first cemetery, the first brick house, and even the Ghost House for thrill-seekers are also here.
