Puerto Princesa - a city in the Philippines, on the island of Palawan, the administrative center of the Palawan province. According to 2000 data, it has 161 912 residents. The city is named after Princess Eulalia de Bourbon, daughter of Isabella II of Spain, who during the 1872 expedition founded the city on the island of Paraguas (also known as Palawan). Puerto Princesa is located in the middle of the island of Palawan. Palawan is 425 km long and from 8.5 to 40 km wide. The area of the island of Palawan is 12 188,6 sq. km. The island lies between the South China Sea, which is to the northwest, and the Sulu Sea in the southeast.
Spanish colonizers established a settlement here on 4 March 1872 with the goal of exploring the region. In 1894, the city was recognized as one of the most beautiful cities in the country. Already at that time, a convenient seaport had been built here.
The city is known for its crocodile farms and underground rivers. Not far from the city, the National Park of the Underground River was created, protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This natural phenomenon is explained by the presence of limestone karst mountain rock formations in the vicinity of the city, where cavities form easily, and where the water flows.
Palawan is probably the most exotic island in the entire Philippine archipelago. With a coastline of 2000 km - one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, it is also home to a protected area of thousands of square kilometers of coral reefs. The island is characterized by a breathtaking diversity of flora and fauna.
ClimateThe island is located in the influence zone of the southwest monsoon. Precipitation occurs from May to December; at other times of the year, Palawan has dry and hot weather. Throughout the year, the average daytime temperature ranges from 26 to 29 °C. The best time to visit Palawan is December-May, while from June to November there are prolonged downpours.

Наиболее интересными считаются Snake Island (с отличными песчаными пляжами и коралловым рифом вокруг острова), Pandan Island (пляж и кораллы), небольшой Starfish Island.
В 12 км к югу от города находится центр защиты природы Палавана (более известный как ферма крокодилов). Созданный в 1987 году на деньги японских инвесторов, он на площади в 10 га демонстрирует жизнь крокодилов. Вы узнаете много интересного об этих рептилиях, включая впечатляющие скелеты и живые пятиметровые персонажи. Центр открыт Пн-Пт 13.30-17.00, Сб 09.00-15,00, кормление рептилий в Пн и Чт, 40 песо.
Палаванская подземная река была выдвинута от Филиппин на звание одного из «7 новых чудес света» и по предварительным данным вошла в число финалистов. Остров Палаван весь пронизан пещерами, гротами и провалами. Но вдоль его западного побережья проходит поистине уникальное геологическое образование – подземная река, претендующая на звание самой длинной в мире. Река доступна простым смертным безо всякого специального спелеологического снаряжения и утомительных многодневных экспедиций. Подземный тоннель включен в список природных памятников Всемирного Наследия ЮНЕСКО. Заповедник Puerto Princessa Subterranean River National Park предлагает своим гостям совершить настоящую прогулку к центру Земли.
