Propriano is a small yet picturesque and cozy town, located on the Valinco Bay coast on the island of Corsica, the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Its beaches with snow-white sand and the clear, calm waters of the bay attract a huge number of tourists from all over the world. Such popularity of the Propriano resort is also due to the hospitality of the locals, who number a little over 3 000 people in the city.
According to historians, the first settlers appeared in these lands as early as the Bronze Age. Valinco Bay was a tempting prize for numerous conquerors and pirates who wanted to establish, in the quiet waters, a base for their military and trading ships. Numerous raids and robberies turned Propriano into something of a heap of rubble.
Before the beginning of the 20th century, the resort, which is so popular today, was a small village where local residents barely made ends meet by earning a living from fishing. Everything changed completely at the moment when entrepreneurs working in the tourism industry turned their attention to the unremarkable village. In virtually no time at all, Propriano became one of the most attractive resort destinations for tourists. Its health-improving mild Mediterranean climate, the cleanest beaches, a great variety of entertainment, shops, restaurants, bars, and the opportunity to explore Corsica’s sights and culture attract vacationers from every corner of our vast planet.
ClimateOn the island, summers are always warm and dry, winters are mild, there is plenty of sunshine and little rain. The average annual temperature is about +20 °C, and in summer the heat can reach +36 °C. The best month for a vacation is September.

What to see
Olhmeto Beach
Between the sea and the mountains lies the idyllic Olmeto beach. It is famous for its white sands and sea water, attracting lovers of swimming and sunbathing. The water here is like nowhere else: it consists of semi-transparent, jade, sapphire, and turquoise patches, scattered in a seemingly random pattern across the bay. The surrounding countryside, with its magnificent landscapes, adds to the holidaymakers’ atmosphere.
Ancient City of Sarten
The ancient city of Sartène was called both the most Corsican of all Corsican cities and the city where demons live. Perhaps it’s all due to the picturesque landscape and the stone houses of traditional Corsican construction, or maybe it’s the remarkable local wines, considered the very best of all those produced on Corsica.
Megaliths of Phylitos
Fifty kilometers from Propriano lies the unique complex of prehistoric megaliths at Philitos. The ancient monuments were discovered by Charles-Antoine Cesari in 1946. Here you can see two- and three-meter monoliths with patterns and bas-reliefs depicting human faces, armor and weapons, dating back to around 1500 BC. The ring-shaped structures built from enormous stones are in excellent condition. About twenty monoliths-so-called menhirs-have been preserved. The complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Excursion in Ajaccio
The small resort town of Propriano is located just 57 kilometers from the capital of Corsica, the city of Ajaccio, which you should definitely visit if you’re interested in historical and architectural monuments. Just an hour and a half by bus from Propriano, and the tourist arrives in the city where the greatest commander and conqueror, Napoleon Bonaparte, was born.
Excursion to Bonifacio
Bonifacio - the most colorful little town in Corsica. Located on the Mediterranean coast, right on cliffs of white limestone, it is a treat for all who are crazy about old towns with their narrow streets, ancient fortresses, and mansions built in a patriarchal style.
Sea trip
