Description — Laem Chabang, Bangkok, Thailand

Laem Chabang is one of the world’s largest cargo ports, as well as a popular cruise port. Laem Chabang is considered the maritime gateway to Bangkok, somewhat analogous to Civitavecchia (the port of Rome), but it is even farther from the Thai capital-130 km away. Meanwhile, another popular resort, Pattaya, is located just 25 km from the port.

Pattaya is a resort city in the southeast of Thailand. It lies on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 165 km southeast of Bangkok. It is in Chonburi Province. The city’s name literally means “southwesterly wind at the beginning of the rainy season.” The population is 100 thousand registered residents (2010); the actual population exceeds 500 thousand (taking into account tourists during peak season). It is one of Thailand’s main tourist hubs.

Pattaya is a well-known resort in Thailand, a city where numerous entertainment options are concentrated for holidaymakers. Almost the entire coastline is taken up by beaches. Pattaya is an ideal place for fishing, water skiing, paragliding, scuba diving, and much more. Near the coast there are islands (including coral islands) with excellent beaches and crystal-clear water (in Pattaya itself, the beaches are not very clean). The biggest of the nearby islands, Koh Larn, which has developed infrastructure, is especially popular with tourists.

Climate

Pattaya’s climate is subequatorial. The average annual minimum is 24.9 °C (with variations from 22 °C in December to 27 °C in May-June). The average annual maximum is 31.2 °C (with variations from 30 °C in December to 33 °C in April).

A clearly defined rainy season runs through most of the year, from March through November inclusive, and depends closely on the level of solar radiation. The highest rainfall occurs in May (the first peak) and in September-October (the second, main peak). In June-August, the amount of precipitation decreases as the sun moves farther into the Northern Hemisphere. The dry season lasts from December to February. During this time, precipitation is very rare, making it an optimal period for rest.

Sights

Big Buddha Hill

Big Buddha Hill

At the top of this hill sits a large Buddha statue, once pure white and now covered in gold. Smaller statues surround the seated Buddha, and at his feet there is a small offering table. On the staircase leading up to the summit, during the daytime, local residents sell little birds. Releasing them from their cage at the top of the hill is considered a good omen. “Big Buddha” is one of the best viewpoints in Pattaya. From here you can enjoy a great view of the entire city both day and night.

Temple of Truth

Temple of Truth

A gruesome and majestic wooden structure - Thailand's KiZhis, built "without a single nail". More precisely - unfinished; work on the building is still underway, but tourists are already being allowed in. The temple is impressive with the abundance of carved details, sometimes strange and tacky, but very eye-catching: buddhas, animals, kings, demons. The height of the temple is 105 meters. Depending on the season, you can catch traditional dances at the temple. They usually take place twice a day - at 11:00 and at 15:30.

Mini Siam

Mini Siam

In this park, 3 kilometers from Pattaya, 100 of the most famous structures of Thailand and architectural monuments from around the world have been brought together. And to fit them all into such a small area, they were scaled down by 200 times. On the park’s paths, you can feel like a real giant by wrapping your arms around the Statue of Liberty or leaning against the Arc de Triomphe. In Mini Siam, not only the monuments themselves are miniaturized, but also the surrounding landscapes: tiny trees grow around the small buildings, and miniature fountain jets give rise to tiny rivers and canals. In the evening, all the buildings in the park are illuminated with picturesque lighting, so it’s best to plan your visit to Mini Siam for the second half of the day.

What to see

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

The central part of Nong Nooch Garden features a wonderful example of landscape design in the style of a traditional French regular park. Against the backdrop of traditional Thai temples, the French park looks truly extraordinary. The park is also home to the “Butterfly Garden,” where about one and a half thousand of these colorful insects live. You can see a unique collection of palms and ferns-many of which are found nowhere else in the world-an ornamental garden of dwarf plants (bonsai), and one of the best orchid parks in all of Thailand. In a separate building in the middle of the park, there is a collection of rare vehicles of the park’s current director, including around 40 unique specimens. The admission price to the park also includes two shows: a folklore performance and a show with trained elephants from the park’s elephant farm.

Beaches of Pattaya

Beaches of Pattaya

Jomtien Beach is located in the southern part of the city and is separated from the Pattaya Bay by the Buddha Hill. Compared with the central part of the resort, the holiday here is more peaceful and suitable for family vacations with children. Pattaya Beach (Central Beach) stretches along the entire center of the city for 3 km. Life is always bustling here, and along the promenade you’ll find many hotels, all kinds of restaurants, and shopping centers. Na Kluea Beach stretches to the north of Pattaya Bay and borders the small beach Palm Beach. The sea here is cleaner than in the center of the resort area, and the holiday is also more calm. Pattaya’s main beaches are a paradise for fans of water sports: riding “bananas” and paragliders, water skiing, windsurfing.

Garden of Million-Year-Old Stones

Garden of Million-Year-Old Stones

The Million Years Stone Park is located 15 minutes by car from the center of Pattaya and is one of the city’s most popular attractions. This is not just a park-it’s a real open-air museum. The park grounds are teeming with trees with lush canopies and wonderful flowers, pathways wind among decorative shrubs, and water flows in cascading streams. In addition to the natural beauty and Thailand’s largest man-made waterfall, the park’s main highlights include the Stone Garden, where visitors can see petrified trees that grew hundreds of millions of years ago. Here, you can also admire miniature bonsai trees, which landscape designers sometimes spend more than a hundred years creating. All this splendor leaves a truly incredible impression.

Aquarium “Underwater World”

Aquarium “Underwater World”

In a dark tunnel more than 100 meters long, precious stones flash as illuminated aquariums with marine inhabitants light up the way. At the “Underwater World,” you can learn what angelfish and butterflyfish look like, meet the freshwater residents of the Amazon basin, and even feed stingrays or huge sea turtles with your own hands.

Tiger Zoo

Tiger Zoo

A small zoo a 30-minute drive from Pattaya. Here live several dozen tigers, as well as elephants, Himalayan bears, monkeys, and camels. Visitors can hold very tiny tiger cubs in their arms and even feed them from a bottle with milk. For observing the lives of adult tigers in a large enclosure, a special tunnel has been built. As guests walk through it, they can closely watch the striped cats without disturbing them or distracting them from the tigers’ activities. Daily, the zoo hosts several shows with trained animals, in which, among other things, scorpions also perform!

Ko Lan Island

Ko Lan Island

In Pattaya itself, the beaches are not very clean, so for a beach holiday it’s best to head to one of the nearby coral islands. The most popular of them is Ko Larn. The central part of this small island is taken up by mountains, encircled all around by magnificent white-sand beaches. The island has everything you need for snorkeling with a mask, cycling or exploring on foot along the eco-trails laid out through the mountains. And right at the top of the mountains, a small temple is hidden away. From here, you can take in the entire island from a bird’s-eye view-either with your eyes or through a camera lens. Ferries to the island depart every hour, and a one-way ticket costs $1.

In conclusion, you will head up to the observation deck of the tallest hotel in Southeast Asia-Baiyoke Sky.

Ayutthaya - the ancient capital of Siam

Ayutthaya - the ancient capital of Siam

Praised by history, shrouded in mystery, the world-famous ancient capital of Siam features picturesque stone temples and ruins-evidence of more than four centuries of Thai state rule in Southeast Asia and its dramatic end. But even if the once-golden city has lost its precious luster, its ancient temples still remain majestic. And the many stone Buddha statues, despite significant damage, inspire the same reverence. In 1991, Ayutthaya was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.

Tiffany Show

Tiffany Show

The first presentations of “Tiffany” began in 1974 with a team of three enthusiasts. Over time, the show’s popularity grew, and now more than 100 wonderful “katoeys” are involved-Thai young men who, thanks to the achievements of modern medicine, have become no less wonderful girls. Participants for this show are selected every year from among many applicants from all over the country. “Tiffany” presentations are staged in a cabaret style-its repertoire includes both humorous sketches and traditional Thai dances, as well as just colorful parades in gorgeous costumes. “Tiffany” is indeed a beautiful, vibrant, expertly produced spectacle, every bit as good as the Parisian “Lido” and “Moulin Rouge.” Filming during the show is strictly prohibited. But after the show, all the katoeys who took part are happy to come out and pose for photographers for a small fee.
