Ancient fortifications
One of the main sights of Fredereesia rises above the system of fortifications-the White Water Tower (1908). From its height (44 m above sea level) you can clearly see the city and the former ramparts, where today a charming park is located. The first earthen ramparts were built here in 1650 by order of King Frederik III, but just 7 years later the Swedes destroyed them. The new ones were built slowly and painfully, since there was no money to be had. They enclosed the city both from the land side and from the sea side, where a citadel was built. The walls and ramparts were dismantled in 1909, and a park was laid out on and around them, where tourists and locals enjoy picnics in good weather by the once ominous cannons.
Powder Tower
The Gunpowder Tower is a kind of mini-citadel, next to which stands a small cannon. It was built in 1675, and it is a copy of its namesake in the Castellet fortress in Copenhagen. Today, it is the oldest military structure in the Principality of Fredericia.
