Fiskardo is a picturesque Greek town located on the northern coast of the largest of the Ionian Islands-Cephalonia-approximately 32 km from Argostoli. This island is the largest of the Ionian Islands on the west of Greece, the so-called “Western Chain” of Greece. The island covers an area of 781 km². Cephalonia is the largest island in the archipelago.
The name Fiskardo is also shared by the bay in which this small port town is located. During the summer season, many vessels dock in the city harbor, including luxurious yachts and fishing boats. There is also regular ferry service to the islands of Ithaca and Lefkas.
Probably, in the area of present-day Fiskardo, in ancient times there was the city of Panormos, mentioned in the 5th century BC by the Greek historian Herodotus. This assumption is supported by certain findings discovered in 2005 during the construction of a commercial complex near the city harbor. And at the end of 2006, large Roman-era burials were found during the construction of a hotel. Among the valuable artifacts were numerous golden jewelry pieces, ceramics, glass and bronze items, coins, and much more. Nearby, excavators also uncovered a well-preserved theater, the remains of a residential house, and Roman baths. The discovered structures and historical relics date from 146 BC to 330 AD.
Its modern name “Fiskardo” the town received during the period of Frankish rule. It is known that in the 18th century the city harbor had significant economic importance. Fiskardo is one of the few inhabited places on the island that remained almost undamaged after the devastating earthquake in 1953. And today, we can see here many Venetian structures preserved remarkably well, creating a unique atmosphere and charm of a Mediterranean town. A great number of excellent restaurants and cafés are located along the waterfront. Here you can not only relax and enjoy delicious Greek cuisine, but also admire beautiful panoramic views of the neighboring island of Ithaca and the snow-white yachts in the port. Near the town, there are excellent pebble beaches with crystal-clear water.
КлиматIn Cephalonia, summers are hot, spring and autumn are very warm, and winter is humid. Already in April, the air temperature often rises to 25 and sometimes even 30 degrees, though it can also be rainy and cool. The sea water sometimes reaches 20 degrees or higher. Similar weather is typical in October. Perhaps only the sea in this month is warmer. Late July and August are for those who love consistently hot weather. November and December are less frequent, but they still offer sunny days, when temperatures rise above 20 degrees, while the sea water is somewhere around 19–20 degrees. At night it is cooler, and a drizzle and wind are also not uncommon. January, February, and March are the coldest months. Nevertheless, if a sunny day turns up, the temperature can go above 20 degrees Celsius.
Наиболее живописной деревней Кефалонии считается Фискардо. Если с одной стороны местную гавань окаймляют прекрасные венецианские домики, возведенные в XVIII столетии, то с другой стороны на ней расположились роскошные яхты. Пляжи в этой части острова галечные, зато идеально подходят для плавания, так как расположены в закрытых бухтах, поэтому море здесь почти всегда спокойное. Вода кристально чистая и прохладная. Береговая линия здесь изрезанная, очень интересная и разнообразная. На многие пляжи можно попасть с суши, но и есть такие, доступ к которым возможен только со стороны моря. В Фискардо есть свой собственный небольшой пляж в паре минут ходьбы от гавани.
Агия Ефимия – небольшая и уютная рыбацкая деревушка, расположенная на острове Кефалонии, в 6 километрах от которой находится известный пляж Миртос, а в 9 – главный порт Кефалонии. Возможно, это одно из красивейших мест в Греции: здесь можно совершить однодневный круиз на яхте или взять напрокат лодку, чтобы отправиться к труднодоступным пляжам. В Агии Ефимии меньше ветров, чем на западном побережье. Лучше всего посетить местность в конце августа или в начале сентября, когда туристов уже меньше, а вода все еще теплая. В нескольких минутах ходьбы от любого гостиничного комплекса в Агия Ефимии расположены рыбные рестораны, тематические бары и магазины. Многие из них работают круглосуточно, прерываясь лишь на несколько минут.
Итака – воспетый великим Гомером остров в Ионическом море. Именно здесь, по легенде, царствовал мифический Одиссей, герой Троянской войны, славившийся своим хитрым умом.
