Costa Maya - a port located on a peninsula along the Caribbean Sea coast
in Mexico, south of Playa del Carmen. The port was built exclusively
for cruise ships. Everything here is designed solely for tourists arriving
on cruise liners: beaches, entertainment, shops, restaurants and bars. The port
opened in February 2001, and in 2007 it was restored after the destruction
caused by Hurricane Dean.
Among tropical forests, there are white sandy beaches, coral reefs and
wonderful archaeological sites. Costa Maya is an ideal place for
combining a beach holiday with exploring the ancient Mayan culture. It will also
appeal to ecotourism enthusiasts: on the Hondo River, a natural border
between Mexico and Belize, you can take part in an adventurous trip or
simply go kayaking. In the Chetumal Bay, manatees live, and
watching them is a true delight. A fishing village, Calderitas, is also located here, featuring
an excellent birdwatching observatory
and great seafood restaurants. Diving lovers will be thrilled by
the underwater paradise of Banco Chinchorro, the world’s largest
coral atoll.
And this is only a small part of the wonderful natural and architectural
attractions that Costa Maya offers to tourists.
ClimateThe climate in Costa Maya is tropical, humid and hot. During the summer months, strong
rainstorms may occur here.
The average precipitation reaches

mm per year. Temperatures range between +24 °C and +26 °C. The water temperature
in summer is +29 °C.
Mexico lies within the hurricane belt, and all coastal areas are affected by them
during the period from June to November.
