Castaway Cay, Bahamas

Small island Castaway Cay has belonged to Walt Disney since 1997. It is the cruise company Disney Cruise Line’s own resort. Castaway Cay is part of the Bahamian archipelago, located not far from the island of Abaco and was previously known as Gordy Cay. In 1997, Walt Disney Company leased this land for 99 years.

About US$25 million was spent on the island’s restructuring and the creation of resort infrastructure. Construction took 18 months and included dredging the ocean floor near the island. This was done to allow Disney ships to dock together, thereby eliminating the need to wait for boarding and passenger disembarkation. The entertainment park on the island was developed based on pirate movies, and many buildings look like ships that have been shipwrecked.

On the island, a 5-kilometer-long area has been set up for comfortable beach relaxation with various water activities. Not far from the beach, lunch is organized, so there’s no need to return to the ship. Animators entertain passengers on the beach, organizing various games.

The island has all the necessary infrastructure, including separate cabana-style houses located on the large beach Castaway Family Beach and on a separate beach only for adults Serenity Bay Beach, where there are also special massage cabanas with ocean views.

The resort is fully equipped for a first-class family vacation. There are BBQ preparation areas, two water-activity areas - Pelican Plunge and Spring-a-Leak, an entertainment area for teens, souvenir shops, and экскурсионные tram-like cars that will take you around the entire island.

Guests of the island can go kayaking, enjoy all kinds of water sports, practice yoga, relax calmly in the bar in the Serenity area with an ocean view, go to meet the stingrays, take a tour on a glass-bottom boat, try parasailing, or go fishing.

The climate on the island is tropical, trade-wind, with abundant rainfall in May-June and September-October. The average temperature in January is +21 °C, in July - about +30 °C.
