Cape Horn, Chile

The Cape Horn National Park was created in 1945. In terms of area, the park is one of the largest in Chile-63 hectares. Surrounded by green plants, high cliffs, and the ocean, many birds, animals, and plants live here.

In the park, there is a memorial to sailors who lost their lives in the struggle against the raging ocean. In the past, Cape Horn was considered a difficult place to navigate. When ships were still sailing vessels, this spot was the most mysterious for sailors. Ships traveling west encountered the fiercest winds and currents that drove them onto the rocks. Ships traveling east often found themselves unexpectedly in dense fog. Within a ten-mile radius of the cape, at the bottom of the sea lie at least a hundred shipwrecks. To overcome the strait and round Cape Horn was considered the most challenging test for seafarers, and therefore every sailor who made such a crossing had the right to wear an earring in his left ear-a symbol of maritime maturity and courage.

Today, ships with tourists arrive here without any problems, and guided tours are held on the territory of the park, engagingly telling the story of these places.
