Cruises from Uzhhorod

Uzhhorod borders Slovakia practically right at the edge of the city, and this makes it one of the few cities where the road to the border is measured in minutes, not hours. The cruise still starts far from here, in Barcelona, Venice, Civitavecchia, Genoa, or Piraeus, where MSC, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Costa, and Celestyal head, but people from Uzhhorod cover the first step toward it faster than residents of practically any other city on the list. After crossing the Slovak border, the nearest convenient airport is Kosice: flights toward European ports can be found from there, though the choice of flights is smaller than from major hubs. The second natural direction leads through Hungary: the city is also located close to that border, and Budapest offers a wider choice of flight connections than Kosice. Which of the two directions to choose depends on specific dates: it is worth checking flights from both airports before booking a ticket, since the ground segment is equally short in both cases. This dual proximity to two borders remains a rare advantage that no other city on this list has. Still, a short border does not mean the whole route is short: after landing at the European port there is always a transfer left, so budget time equally regardless of the choice.
