Cruises from Gdansk
Published: 2 min read
Gdansk is itself a port city on the Baltic, and that is exactly what shapes a separate travel logic for those who live here. Instead of the usual Mediterranean direction, it is natural to consider the Baltic season, when MSC, Norwegian, Costa, and other lines depart from ports like Copenhagen or Kiel, rather than from Barcelona or Venice. Both these ports can be reached by flight: regular connections toward Scandinavia and northern Germany fly from Gdansk, though the choice of direct flights is smaller than from major European hubs. A separate option, relevant specifically for residents of a coastal city, remains ferry service: regular ferry lines have historically existed between southern Baltic ports and Scandinavia, used by both tourists and freight transport. For residents of a coastal city, such a sea journey often feels more natural than flying: it is a way of reaching a neighboring country familiar since childhood, not just a practical choice. The ferry is, of course, longer than a plane, but it does not depend on airport schedules and can be an interesting alternative for those not in a hurry. When choosing between a flight and a ferry, factor in the time of year: the Baltic cruise season is usually shorter than the Mediterranean one and falls in the summer months. If specific dates do not match the Baltic season, it is worth considering the Mediterranean option too, through one of the Polish airports deeper in the country. Current dates for the Baltic and Mediterranean seasons are convenient to check directly in the cruise catalog on the site.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the Baltic cruise direction specifically relevant for Gdansk?
Gdansk is located on the Baltic, so ports like Copenhagen or Kiel are geographically closer and more convenient for city residents than Mediterranean directions.
How do I get from Gdansk to Copenhagen or Kiel?
Easiest by flight: regular connections toward Scandinavia and northern Germany exist from Gdansk. There is also ferry service for those not in a hurry.
Is it worth choosing a ferry instead of a plane?
It depends on how much time you are willing to spend: the ferry takes longer than a flight, but does not depend on airport schedules and can be an interesting travel format in itself.
When does the Baltic cruise season run?
It is usually shorter than the Mediterranean one and falls in the summer months. If your dates do not match the season, consider the Mediterranean route through a Polish airport deeper in the country.
Do I need a visa for a trip to Denmark or Germany?
Requirements depend on citizenship and residence status in Poland, so check them in advance on the official consulate websites of the relevant countries.
